Battery storage planned on an area of up to 16 hectares | GESI office opened on site
Preparations are in full swing: one of the largest electricity storage facilities in Germany is to be built in the immediate vicinity of the former Grohnde nuclear power plant in Lower Saxony by 2028(see visualization above).
“The company Green Energy Storage Initiative SE (GESI) plans to invest up to 700 million euros in Emmerthal to install battery storage systems on an area of up to 16 hectares,” reported the Deister- und Weserzeitung newspaper a few weeks ago. To put it in perspective: that would be the equivalent of around 22 soccer pitches.
Our CEO Jens Michael Wegmann, who comes from the region, presented the project at the energy fair in Emmerthal in January. There is now also a GESI office on site(see photo below).
If things continue to go according to plan, the complex planning and approval process under building law could be completed this year. Among other things, the approval process in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) and the detailed planning of the battery site are currently underway.
