They are ramped up when too little green electricity is produced. This is essential to prevent blackouts. Due to the massive expansion of renewable energies and the shutdown of conventional power plants, the need for flexibly controllable power plants is increasing:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche, Germany will need up to 20 gigawatts of connected capacity by 2030 in order to implement the coal phase-out as planned.
